What is the UK Tier2 Work Visa?

The UK Tier 2 Work Visa, also known as the Tier 2 (General) Visa, is designed for individuals who have been offered a skilled job in the UK. This visa allows you to work in the UK for a licensed sponsor who has offered you a position that cannot be filled by a resident worker.

Eligibility Criteria for the UK Tier 2 Work Visa

  • Job Offer: You must have a confirmed job offer from a UK employer.
  • Certificate of Sponsorship: You need a Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed sponsor before you can apply. The certificate is an electronic record, not a physical document, and contains your personal details and information about the job you’ve been offered.

Key Features of the UK Tier 2 Work Visa

  • You are allowed to work for your sponsor in the job described in your Certificate of Sponsorship.
  • You can stay in the UK for up to 5 years and 14 days, or the time given on your Certificate of Sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter.
  • After 5 years, you may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which allows you to live in the UK permanently.

Application Process for the UK Tier 2 Work Visa

  1. Secure a job offer from a licensed sponsor in the UK.
  2. Your employer must issue a Certificate of Sponsorship.
  3. Submit your visa application online and provide the necessary documentation, including your Certificate of Sponsorship reference number, proof of your knowledge of English, and proof of personal savings.
  4. You will need to provide your biometric information (fingerprints and a photograph) as part of the application process.
